Onion and Garlic Cough Syrup

About the Recipe

This mixture may assist in clearing mucus from the chest. It may also help in stopping the cough and help to expel mucus. The honey and cayenne may help open the airways, soothe, and decrease irritation.


  • 1 cup raw, unfiltered Honey

  • 1/2 cup chopped Garlic

  • 1/2 cup chopped Onion

  • 2 Lemons (juiced)

  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

  • 1/3 teaspoon Peppermint Oil

  • 1/2 cup grated Horseradish


Step 1

Blend all the ingredients together in a mason jar.

Step 2

Store in a tightly fiting mason jar. Store in a cool, dry place for 24 hours.

Step 3

Strain the liquid and discard the other contents. (Upcycle the discarded portion in a dish of your choice.)

Step 3

Take 1/2 teaspoon every half hour as needed. May be kept for up to 3 months.


While this mixture is ok for children caution must be taken and no more than 1/4 teaspoon.
