Journaling is one of the most powerful tools of recovery. It is one that I have used for years. Write from your heart; write anything that comes to mind. It need only make sense to you: create lists or your prayers. To get started all you need to do is get a notebook, pencil or pen, and begin to write.

Write freely

Don’t worry about punctuation, grammar, spelling, or penmanship. Try not to fix your mistakes. Your journal is your brain-dump space. Scribble, draw or paste pictures as you please.

Keep it private

Keeping your journal confidential ensures that you control what you share. No one should violate your privacy. Ask family and friends to respect your privacy and that it should not be read without your permission.
